Accessible Deaf health information is important to keeping the Deaf Community well. We have listed a number of websites that you can use to access interpreters or to find more information about health conditions.

NHS 111 (BSL):

You can also access interpreters online using the NHS111 service. This service is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can visit the website by clicking on NHS111

SignHealth:

Signhealth has over 100 videos about mental health including tips on how you can help improve your own well being (see the video below).

Signhealth also has over 150 videos on physical health. The topics in BSL include Diabetes, Cancer, HIV, Asthma and many more. You can access the video library by clicking on the link to Signhealth.

SignHealth-Psychological Therapy:

BSL Healthy Minds is a ‘psychological therapy service for deaf people’ run by Signhealth. They can provide support (in BSL) if you experience depression, anxiety or other similar problems. They also have lots of self-help video clips in BSL about topics such as alcohol, anxiety, OCD, sleep problems, stress and many others.

Healthy Eating – Diabetes

Healthy eating is essential for your physical and mental well-being. This clip explains what you need to eat for a balanced diet. The video is aimed at people with Diabetes but the information is useful to everyone who needs to know about healthy eating.

Dementia

Alzheimer’s Society has produced videos about Alzheimer’s and Dementia. You can access more BSL videos at the Alzheimers Society website.

Healthy Heart

The British Heart Foundation has created a series of clips that explain how to keep your heart healthy including the clip below which explains high cholesterol. You can access more video clips on the British Heart Foundation Youtube channel.

Keeping Fit

Exercise is an important part of looking after your health. UK Deaf Sport have created this clip showing chair exercises. These exercises can be done by any age including over 60s.

You can watch a longer clip from the UK Deaf Sport Wellbeing Festival. There are lots of different people doing different exercises including Yoga, Pilates and cardio exercises. You can watch the clip and follow the exercises on UK Deaf Sports channel.
