MKDZ Wednesday Afternoon Club – Astronomy Talk on 17th October 2018

Quote from Steve Lawrence, MKDZ volunteer present at the event:

“Overall 30 people including the Volunteers were attended the MKDZ club.

As Derek Rowley introduced there, everyone were watched him intently while he explained about the comparison between the planets and the sun of our solar system specifically, such as mass, speed, temperature, etc and also stars beyond in space.

With the use of “dummy” sun and the planets provided, he demonstrated us in how far distance from the Sun, as the centre of solar system, to each planet which is so vast. Mind-boggling!

His lectures on Astronomy was well informative basically, so it was certainly enable to helped them to understand it generally.

In the end, they were enjoyed among themselves while exchanged their talk about it in wonderment.

Thank you, Derek for lecturing them.”

From MKDZ, thank you everyone for attending the talk and Derek Rowley and Steve Lawrence and volunteers for organising and hosting the event!

“Trodden along the 12.5 miles route in the persistent showers all day with well visibility of countryside views
but it does not dampen our spirits and in the end, we were soaked through! “

MK Deaf Rambling – Ampthill & Clophill Circular Walk – Saturday 6th October 2018

Come and join MK Deaf Rambling on a leisurely 12 mile circular walk on Saturday 6th October 2018 at 10am.

Park your car at the South West Car Park in Ampthill Park, at the pretty small historic town of Ampthill, just off the B530 next to the cricket ground at 10am.

There is a lovely café with toilet facilities in the park where we will meet before starting the walk at 10.30am (you may wish to have breakfast in the café or coffee beforehand!?).

Bring your packed lunch and drinks or have lunch at the lovely Flying Fox pub in Clophill, off the A6 by 12.30pm, having completed the first 6 miles.

After a hour rest, we will continue another 6 miles walk back to Ampthill, passing the ruins of Houghton House to reach the car park by 4pm.

The walk is moderately flat with the exception towards the end, when going up some small hills to admire some views of Bedfordshire’s countryside.

Everyone is welcome!
